The book is a collection of poems and recollections of the author’s experiences with a first time cancer diagnosis. The book describes the author’s five phases of coping with the diagnosis, from initial shock to becoming a strong advocate for herself and others. Soon after discovering a thickening in her left breast, the author learned she was already at Stage 4 breast cancer as it had spread to her bones.
Despite previous negative mammograms and a negative breast biopsy, she now has an incurable form of the disease. She went into remission following several months of chemotherapy. Since then, she has developed the strength and will to face an illness with an average life span of 3 to 5 years. The author’s intent is to help others who may be struggling with a cancer diagnosis and give them strategies for improving the quality of their lives.
